Alcohol Interlock Installation Facilitation
This regulation complements Regulation (EU) 2019/2144 and provides detailed guidelines for the installation of alcohol interlocks in motor vehicles. It also amends Annex II to the same regulation, which outlines the type-approval requirements for motor vehicles and their components.
Category M and N motor vehicles, which are designed for the transportation of passengers and goods respectively, are required to have advanced vehicle systems such as alcohol interlocks to improve road safety by preventing drivers with excessive alcohol levels from operating the vehicle.
Under this regulation, vehicle manufacturers are required to provide clear instructions on their websites for the proper installation of alcohol interlocks in specific vehicle models. This will enable technicians to install the interlocks accurately, ensuring their effectiveness in preventing drunk driving.
