Fleet managers are always looking for new ways to streamline processes, enhance efficiency and boost productivity. One effective strategy that you may not be using is geofencing technology.
With our upgraded geofencing feature, automated alerts keep you in the loop as vehicles enter or leave specific areas. It’s simple, it’s smart, and it boosts operational efficiency, making the management of large fleets on-the-move that little bit easier.
Real-time geofence alerts
Previously, the only way to view geofence events in the CameraMatics dashboard was to build a report. With these latest updates, geofence alerts (when a vehicle leaves or enters a specific area) are now created as events within CameraMatics, and can be viewed in the same way as other events, directly from the dashboard. That means you can check at a glance that things are as they should be, and when vehicles are leaving or arriving in real-time.
But that’s not all, to make things even more convenient, you can now configure email alerts for each individual geofence event. For instance, if you’re away from the dashboard and get an email alert saying a vehicle left the depot when it wasn’t supposed to – you can take immediate action.
Or, for simple everyday workflows, you can get notifications that people are arriving and leaving where they should, when they should. You can also ensure that they are performing their vehicle checks in the correct location, all without having to log onto the dashboard.
These changes make creating and monitoring geofences simpler than ever for fleet managers. And just in case you weren’t aware of existing geofencing capabilities in CameraMatics, read on.
What is Geofencing?
When managing fleets, it’s good to know when your vehicles enter or leave specific areas. Geofencing utilizes GPS, RFID, Wi-Fi, or cellular data to create virtual boundaries around geographical locations.
Integrated with CameraMatics, this technology allows you to establish virtual perimeters (triangular, square, circular or point-to-point) around critical sites like warehouses, delivery zones, or specific routes. You can set triggers for entering or exiting these boundaries, monitoring speeding violations within the area, and how long the vehicles are parked for.
Once configured, our system monitors your vehicles in real-time and triggers alerts when they hit these triggers. For instance, if you manage delivery operations with strict loading and unloading schedules, you can establish geofences at client location to ensure drivers adhere to arrival and departure times. And you can customise alerts to instantly notify you if any vehicle exceeds a predefined speed limit within the geofenced area, thereby maintaining safety standards at all times.
How can geofencing help fleet managers?
Let’s start with efficiency – every fleet manager’s goal. Geofencing allows you to automate a variety of tasks, reducing the need for manual oversight. Imagine logging entry and exit times automatically, optimising routes based on real-time data, and scheduling maintenance only when it’s truly needed. By minimising manual intervention, geofencing helps ensure your operations run smoothly and efficiently.
Safety and security are critical in fleet management. Geofencing provides a layer of real-time monitoring that enhances both. If a vehicle deviates from its designated route or enters a restricted area, you get immediate alerts. This capability allows for swift action, preventing potential security breaches and unauthorised vehicles.
Regulatory compliance is another area where geofencing can make a significant impact. With geofencing, you can ensure that your fleet adheres to restricted zones, environmental regulations, and other legal requirements. Automatic logs and alerts can provide documentation and proof of compliance, simplifying your auditing processes and reducing the risk of fines.
Geofencing isn’t limited to vehicles; it can also be used alongside our asset tracking devices to keep an eye on valuable assets such as equipment, tools, or inventory. By creating geofences around storage facilities or construction sites, businesses can monitor asset movements, prevent theft or loss, and streamline inventory management processes.
By optimising routes, reducing manual tasks, and scheduling maintenance more effectively, geofencing helps you save on fuel, labour, and maintenance costs. These savings can have a significant impact on your bottom line.
Never lose sight of your fleet with geofencing
In an era defined by digital innovation and heightened competition, businesses must leverage cutting-edge technologies to gain a competitive edge and drive growth.
Incorporating geofencing into your fleet management strategy can transform your operations. From enhanced safety and security to increased efficiency and compliance, the benefits are endless. If you’re ready to take your fleet management to the next level, consider integrating geofencing with CameraMatics.
